It's finally summer

Summer has finally arrived
Provincial exams are done, Grade 6 is over
and the Bass family says good bye to a loved one

Casey has finally been making use of her Bumbo
while a rolly polly all over the place baby sitting is not yet her forte, but we are getting there

Just another day in the Bass home with some wrestling

We celebrated the last day of school with a zoo trip
we were gone most of the day and it was very busy seeing that everyone else had the same idea

I think the zoo is what finally pushed my aching hip past the point of no return.

I've been battling aches and pains for awhile, but it took a turn for the worst when all the muscles gave up seized and took over my sciatic nerve.  Three weeks of Physio and we've finally gotten to root of the problem, my SI joint.  It's very weak and the muscles the support this joint in your pelvis have begun to deteriorate and need to be strengthened.  So I've been spending lots of time not carrying Casey around if I can help it, sitting or laying down and stretching those muscles to get relief.  This silly issue has taken over my July.

So I enlist the help of family on the weekends.  Our first Warner weekend of the summer at the Cabin was a drizzly, but nice one.

With the weather improving Tuesday morning so the boys tried their hands at fishing on the lake and we took a little boat ride.

The boat always puts the little ones to sleep

Dinner out was great fun for our little family.  Casey was pleased to be out and Logan got her to laugh uncontrollable.  We all thought this was so funny and were laughing which of course made her laugh harder.

Miss Casey has certainly turned into a daddy's girl.  It's a bit ridiculous actually.
She always has a smile for him regardless of her present mood and will almost vibrate in excitement when he approaches.  She calms right down the minute he sings her name out.  She even calms if he talks over the phone to her.  She knows when he's home and hears his voice and looks frantically for him until he comes to greet her.

We also learned shortly after of some very sad news.
Kevin's Grandmother Sevy Bass has passed away.
A lovely selfless brave woman with a heart of gold.
This was very sad news.  We had planned to see her and introduce her to Casey and it was heart breaking that we missed this chance.

Kevin was able to share some beautiful stories and memories about her during her service.  Her making him several breakfasts when he went to visit at 5:30am as a young boy, a story I've heard many times over the years because it was so special to him.  First he'd get to have several of those little cereal boxes, then she'd offer to make eggs and bacon which were followed by pancakes.  He recalls he sneaking money into their birthday cards, a secret from Pa, who likely wouldn't have approved.  There was no shortage of her making you feel special, she'd play cards as long as he wanted and remarked on how tall Kevin was getting every time he saw her (he probably was getting very tall).

I didn't get to personally know this wonderful women during her healthy prime.  I got to meet her unfortunately many years ago as her memory was beginning to fail, but she was always very kind and welcoming of me.  As an important person to Kevin and being one of the many people the loved and supported him she will have a special place in our hearts.
